Hello and welcome. Today I'm going to show you how to connect a MIDI keyboard to a Mac computer with Bluetooth.
If your MIDI keyboard happens to have Bluetooth capability built-in, first make sure Bluetooth is turned ON as per your instruction manual.
Or, if like me you're using a Bluetooth MIDI adapter, plug in or connect your adapter as per the instructions that come with it and make sure it's turned ON and that your MIDI keyboard is turned ON.
Today, I'm using a Yamaha UD-BT01, so I've plugged that into the wall, and I've connected a USB 2.0 cable from it to my MIDI controller keyboard which will give the keyboard power.
Next, on your Mac, go to System Preferences select Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is turned ON.
Then, using Spotlight, open Audio MIDI Setup
1. In Audio MIDI Setup, choose Window > Show MIDI Studio.
2. Double-click the Bluetooth icon in the MIDI Studio window.
3. Now you should see a separate Bluetooth configuration box and in there you should see your Bluetooth MIDI device.
4. Select your Bluetooth MIDI device from the list, then click connect.
Now, launch your MIDI software application. Today, I'm using Musiah which is an incredible A.I. piano lessons app available at www.musiah.com.
In Musiah, select Settings. The default or recommended setting for the MIDI Input Device is Any Keyboard, but if you click the down arrow, you should see your Bluetooth MIDI device on the list.
Whether you click that or whether you leave the default setting of Any Keyboard, it should just work. So play a few notes on your keyboard and you should hear them.
For simplicity's sake, I recommend leaving this setting on Any Keyboard. That way if you change to another instrument or a wired connection next time, it will just work without you having to manually select the MIDI Input Device from the list.
Anyway, there you have it folks. That's how to get Bluetooth MIDI working on your Mac.
