Musiah Review: Piano Lessons That Give You The Tools To Learn Other Pieces

5 March 2015

Ali _Hussain _Musiah _Piano _Lessons2Today, I am proud to share with you this wonderful review by our newest Musiah — Ali Hussain of Ann Arbor, Michigan in the United States (pictured opposite).

In just two and half months, Ali has completed the entire Musiah course, and in so doing, has earned himself the much coveted rank of “Musiah”.

Near the start of his journey, when Ali had just completed his first two weeks of lessons, he wrote “Reflection On Piano Lessons With Musiah: First Two Weeks — Absolutely Dumbfounded” which you may find helpful to read in conjunction with the below review.

Together, the two articles provide a rounded perspective initially from the view-point of a person at the beginning of a very special and unusual journey. And now, having completed that journey, the lessons learned and shared below are all the more far-reaching…

In December 2014, as I was searching online for a way to fulfill my life dream of learning piano, I stumbled across a website with a name that immediately caught my attention… Musiah — “The world’s first A.I Virtual Piano Teacher”.

I must admit, this particular sentence made me skeptical initially, since I had read a lot about Artificial Intelligence and was aware of how difficult it must be for a computer to teach piano, considering all the nuances and difficulties involved in the process.

However, I was also very motivated and wanted to achieve my dream; so I gave Musiah a chance.

On February 26th 2015, a few days ago, I successfully completed the Musiah course by passing the audition and performance challenge of Lesson 131: The Lost Song.

Over these past two and a half months, I did not just learn how to play the piano; for the process is much more sophisticated and involved than this.

I had mentioned in a reflection that I wrote after the first two weeks of enrolling in the course that Musiah had taught me how to be patient and appreciate the journey of learning piano as opposed to rushing impatiently to complete the course.

Musiah has helped to realize and actualize my own musical self and talent.

In reality, there is no end to learning piano. This is an art, and Musiah, the virtual teacher and voice who brought this wonderful mentor to life, Brendan Hogan (Musiah Inventor), have both been instrumental in helping me not just play the correct notes at the right time for the appropriate duration; but most importantly also to realize and actualize my own musical self and talent.

With such a patience and consistency anyone will be able to enjoy Musiah and learn piano.

What level of proficiency does Musiah leave you with after finishing the course?

However, many are wondering probably what level of proficiency does Musiah leave you with after finishing the course? And will I be able to play any piece after completing the Lost Song?

First, I’m happy to tell you that I have almost completed learning my first song outside of the Musiah course, “Let It Be” by the Beatles with the original arrangement by Paul McCartney.

So again, with the right patience, motivation and consistency the only obstacle standing between you and your dream is only time really. However, Musiah is the perfect companion to accompany you on this journey.

Learning piano is a lot like learning a new language.

Lastly, I just wanted to draw an analogy that might prove helpful to those looking to start their own wonderful journey with Musiah. Learning piano, I’ve discovered, is a lot like learning a new language.

We become very excited once we pick the first set of words, so we begin to use them in a sentence. A native speaker of the language will be able to tell that we are beginning learners because we speak tensely and always think twice about what we say.

It usually takes years before we can begin to speak this new language naturally and understand the nuances and subtleties of its beauty.

Likewise, music is a language and sheet notation is its written format. It has an alphabet with a set grammar and accents.

The gradual steps that Musiah used to teach me have become the tools I now use to learn other pieces.

Give yourself time to enjoy this process and trust Musiah, as your teacher, to carry you through it step by step.

I was inclined numerous times to skip a lesson and start auditioning a piece immediately, I’m very glad I didn’t.

Because now, these gradual steps that Musiah used to teach me have become the tools I used to learn “Let It Be” and the repertoire of songs and pieces I hope to continue learning in the years to come.

Thank you Musiah! And I hope you, the reader, begin your own wonderful journey with this course and discover the Musiah inside of you."

With deep gratitude, Ali, I thank you sincerely for sharing your story both here and in your earlier article, “Reflection On Piano Lessons With Musiah: First Two Weeks — Absolutely Dumbfounded”.

That you have been kind enough to share your thoughts on your personal growth and transformation throughout your journey is both appreciated and eye-opening.

And to have been instrumental in helping you fulfill your “life dream of learning piano” is a great source of pride and joy for me personally.

That said, your astonishing success, is in no small part due to your admirable discipline, persistence and self-awareness.

To put this in context for our readers, the playing skills and music reading skills you have acquired in around 11 weeks equates to approximately 5-6 years of traditional piano lessons.

Yet for me, the most rewarding part of your achievement is not so much the rapidity with which you achieved this, but perhaps more importantly, how well you achieved it… and consequently, how well-equipped you now are to continue your life-long musical journey that will take you who knows where.

Congratulations, my friend! And I wish you every continued success on the road ahead.

What people say about Musiah

I'm an adult student learning to play piano with Musiah. I have finished level one and approaching the end of level two. I have no previous experience with the piano. This is early stages for me but slowly I am becoming able to read music from the sheet music and play it which is quite remarkable. I'm looking forward to working my way through this course and enjoy the interactive spaceship scenario, definitely appeals to the big kid inside of me. Thanks Musiah.
