Musiah Review: Piano Lessons Enhanced By Story Says UK Adult Student

5 June 2014

Paul _Mc Intyre _Musiah _Piano _StudentAs the impending release of Musiah Unity (the next version of Musiah) draws inexorably closer, I find myself wondering which of the two operating modes will be more popular with adult students — 'Story' mode or 'Pure' mode?

Initially, the first beta release of Musiah Unity (available from approximately mid-July 2014) will offer a new mode called 'Pure' mode, with ‘Story’ mode being added to the app about two months later.

In case you're wondering, ‘Pure’ mode will offer pure piano tuition, i.e. no story / animation while ‘Story’ mode is like the current version of Musiah in that it features the Musiah story / animation content.

In this context, today, I would like to share with you a review just in from Paul McIntyre, a 46 year old adult student from Buckinghamshire (near London) in the UK who is a beginner with no prior piano / keyboard lessons.

Like many adults who are using the current version of Musiah, Paul (pictured above) has some interesting thoughts to share re the storyline.

Before I started learning with Musiah, at a first look, being an adult, I thought the programme was aimed towards children.

However, after taking the trial, I found that the animation and storyline really helps to keep you engaged which ultimately makes learning more enjoyable.

I also particularly like the interactive note reading games. I find that they really help with learning to read notation which is something I have always struggled with.

Some of the other benefits of Musiah’s online piano lessons that appeal to me are;

  • Being able to practice when it suits me
  • Being able to go into the practice area and work on pieces
  • Having the pressure of the performance challenge really helps to focus on getting the pieces right
  • I also like that you can use a midi keyboard to take this course as I do not own a real piano.

I would definitely recommend Musiah. I think it is a great alternative to formal piano lessons...

...which can be expensive, and the engaging story helps make the learning more enjoyable.

Many thanks, Musiah.

Adult Piano Student

Sincere thanks Paul for your kind feedback, and for sharing your perspective on the storyline and how it ultimately makes learning more enjoyable (which, as it happens, I agree with as I feel it adds another level of meaning to one’s progress — and there is quite a profound mystery revealed at the end).

Whether you (dear reader) would choose ‘Story’ mode or ‘Pure’ mode (once Musiah Unity is released) is of course a matter of personal preference. In either case, the important thing is that the piano tuition within the Musiah software is by far the most technologically advanced anywhere it the world, and is equally suitable for adults and kids.

In fact, more than half our students are adults some of whom are in their 70’s and 80’s and achieving great results — and most importantly loving their piano lessons — with Musiah.

Thanks for reading, and please feel free to comment.

What people say about Musiah

Musiah is the best interactive software for learning piano I have come across. You have an actual teacher who guides you through the lessons step by step. If you make a mistake he not only points out what and how, but fixes the problems you're having by working through exercises tailored to the issues you are specifically having. A very intelligent program, I love it. I also like the fact that you can't 'cheat' and just jump ahead, it makes sure you learn each item before introducing the next concept. I cannot recommend this highly enough, it blows piano marvel and playground sessions out of the water, it really is like having a piano teacher that interacts with you.
